About the F-Statistic
The F-Statistic is a test statistic in hypothesis testing that compares variances. It compares the ratio of two variances. It helps you determine if group differences are real or random. As a mnemonic, you can refer to the F-Statistic as the "Fact" Statistic.
It answers if the variation between groups is bigger than the variation within groups.
How to Interpret the F-Statistic?
If your F ≈ 1, then groups are probably not different.
If your F > 1 (especially much larger), then groups are likely different
Rule of Thumb:
The bigger the F, the more evidence that group means are not all the same.
